Prairie Boy Bakery Organic Sourdough Bread Workshops 2018
Around here, we are very passionate about bread and eating well. Healthy eating begins with knowing where your food comes from and knowing how to cook those ingredients. We would like to take some of the mystery out of making great sourdough bread and share with you some pointers and lessons on how to make your own delicious bread at home.
The Starter, The Flour, The Loaf: A Beginners Guide to Sourdough Bread
(3 hours, $82 +taxes&fees per person)
You love our bread, so why not try to make it at home! Learn everything you need to know about making, maintaining and baking with a wild-yeast sourdough starter.This class will teach you the basics of mixing a sourdough starter, how to keep it alive, how to mix our “wet dough”, how to shape a proper loaf and how to bake your own bread. You will learn about the history of sourdough bread, why it’s important and why gluten is your friend. Let us teach you our “secrets” and bread slang and take all the intimidation away from making healthy, delicious sourdough bread at home.
This class includes the following skills:
* Mix and maintain your sourdough starter
* Weigh and mix ingredients to make the dough
* Learn our “no-knead” method
* Shape and bake your own loaf!
Each student will go home with your own baked loaf, your sourdough starter, a recipe with instructions and 2 kg of our fresh, locally milled organic flour to make your next loaf at home. We will also offer a discount of 10% to our students to shop our store front and support other local artisans. We will provide the aprons, but please wear closed toe shoes, clothes you don’t mind getting a little messy in and wear your hair up or under a hat.
Classes are generally on a Sunday 2-5pm ‘ish, or weekdays 6-9pm
